On May 27, 1960 he married the love of his life, Bess Louise Gibson Clark and they would have three children in addition to Buddy's first child Michael.

He served in the United States Armed Services during the Korean war. He was an avid outdoorsman who never missed a hunt or fishing trip with his father, son, brother-in-law Harvey Jones and /or his extended family of CPS friends. In his early years he loved playing golf and most recently watching others play on the golf channel daily. Buddy loved being at his place in Yancey where he spent his retirement days working on fence, tending to and feeding his cattle, while waiting for the next hunting season to open.

Buddy was preceded in death by his Loving Parents, mother Arzelia Bernice “Bunnie" Hagel and father Meinerth George Hagel. Sending prayers to the family and thoughts of what a wonderful person Buddy was. He taught me about the Right-of-way profession with smiles and laughter. He was a great mentor. He had a wonderful friendly personality and enjoyed visiting with others. He will be greatly missed. The ROW section of CPS Energy misses him and is thankful for his expertise and processes that are still in use today.
