

Hannah Elizabeth (Skinner) Maxwell passed two months shy of her 100th birthday. Betty’s life was marked by service, dedication, and kindness to others. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, to George N. and Bessie (Johnson) Skinner, she pursued her education with determination, studying economics at Brown University.
Elizabeth devoted much of her career to recreation services with the U.S. Army and Air Force, serving both in the United States and in Europe. Over the years, she held leadership roles as a recreation supervisor and specialist at several bases, where she was known for her commitment to improving the well being and morale of service members and their families. Her work earned her professional recognition, including honors from recreation and parks organizations and listings in Who’s Who of American Women and related publications.
She married John W. Maxwell on June 24, 1966, and together they shared a life of travel and service, living at various military assignments before settling in San Antonio, Texas in 1981.
Elizabeth will be remembered most for her generous spirit, her dedication to helping others enjoy life, and the quiet kindness she showed to everyone she met.
