

Harold Thomas Barnes, born 25 December 1940 in Lamar, Prowers County, Colorado, passed peacefully from this life to his eternal heavenly home on Monday, 3 March 2025, at he age of 84 years. Harold was the son of Ralph and Thelma Barnes.
Harold is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frieda, and their children, Julie (Eric) Willoughby of New Plymouth, Idaho, and Angel (Amber) Palacios of Fort Stockton. Forever remembered as “Buddy" by his six grandchildren: Cassie Barnett of San Antonio, Ashlie Abbott (Terry) of Decatur, Asher, Aric, Avalon, and Aleese Palacios of Fort Stockton; six great-grandchildren: Nathan Willoughby, Raymond, Rebekah and Elliott Barnett; Connor and Collin Abbott; brothers Donald (Wendy) and Bill (Debby) both of Alvarado and sister in law Melodie Barnes of Mansfield plus numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Jeffrey Allen; brother David and sisters Dolores Grube and Orcellia Hill.
Serving as Pallbearers will be his son, son in law, grandsons, and great grandsons.
Harold was graduated from Sandia High School, Albuquerque, NM and attended the University of New Mexico, the University of Texas Arlington, and Tarrant Community College.
He retired from General Motors Arlington assembly plant after 33 years; and Classic Chevrolet. Harold was a faithful Christian, a foster parent for more than 35 years and a kind, compassionate servant to all. He enjoyed being with family, traveling, and outdoor sports especially biking. He was a loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks and every team on which his grandchildren were playing.
A Celebration of his life will be held 2pm Saturday March 8, 2025 in the Yellow Rose room at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio with Terry Starling officiating. Burial to follow at adjacent Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family is grateful to the staff of Gentiva Hospice and especially to CNA Albert for his kind, compassionate, dignified care ,and his nurse Connie for her support.
Remembrances may be given to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or the Parkinson’s Foundation in his honor.
