It is with profound sadness that we share the news of Harold M. Hood’s passing on December 5, 2025, at the young age of 87. Born in Iowa to David and Hazel Hood, Harold was the oldest of four children: David, Robin, and Sue. He is survived by his sister, Sue, and was preceded in death by his brothers, David and Robin.
Harold’s life was defined by unwavering commitment and service. At the young age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, dedicating over 20 years of his life to his country, ultimately rising to the rank of Master Sergeant. His love for the military and his country was evident in everything he did.
After his military career, Harold’s intelligence and technical brilliance shone through in the corporate world. As a head programmer for two major companies, he also shared his expertise as a consultant to various firms.
In 1960, while stationed in Spain at just 22 years old, Harold met the love of his life, Maria Rosa, a 17-year-old with whom he formed an instant and lasting bond. Harold also developed a close relationship with her father, Antonio, who embraced him as a son, playing a pivotal role in Harold’s transformation from a reserved individual into a self-assured man. Harold and Maria’s deep love flourished over the next 63 years, a partnership marked by affection, laughter, support, and yes, a bit of bickering. Together, they raised two children: Patricia, who was widowed from her husband, Charles, and James, who is happily married to Lisa. Harold’s pride and joy were also his grandchildren—Sarah, and her husband Chayne; Tim, and his wife Beatrice; Kaitlyn; James; and Nickolas—and his six great-grandchildren, each of them was loved and held a special place in his heart and brought great joy to his life.
Harold was also known for his strong work ethic, a quality he passed down to his children. His dedication, perseverance, and determination shaped the lives of both his son and daughter, who carry forward his example in their own lives.
A lover of the outdoors, Harold found joy in gardening, building fountains and ponds, and reminiscing about fishing trips with his children and friends. He had a deep affection for animals, especially dogs and cats, and his home was filled with their presence.
Harold was a man who never met a stranger. He had the gift of conversation and could strike up a friendly chat with anyone, whether they were a longtime friend or someone he had just met. His warmth, humor, and genuine interest in others made him a beloved figure wherever he went.
Even after a stroke left him disabled in his final months, Harold maintained his resilient spirit. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior in the final chapter of his life.
Harold’s passing leaves a tremendous void in the lives of his family and friends. He will be remembered not only for his many achievements but for the wisdom, kindness, and love he shared with everyone around him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
May you rest in the eternal peace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Your spirit, dedication, and love will forever resonate in the hearts of those you touched. Until we meet again in heaven one day.
A service and funeral will take place at Ft. Sam Houston Cemetery on December 16, 2025, promptly at 9:30 am, Shelter 3 (2nd shelter on the right hand side when you pull in). Friends and family are invited to join in honoring Harold’s memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the VA or your local animal shelter, reflecting Harold’s dedication to service and love for animals.
