

Retired Alumni Director of Springfield College, MA, Hal is survived by a son, Allen; stepson, David; step-daughter, Jackie; and grandson, Gordon.
His wife, Dorothy Dottie of 38 years predeceased him in March, 2004.
Born in Hartford, CT on March 30th, 1919, Hal grew up in Greenwich, CT before attending Springfield College, graduating in 1941. He then joined the old Army Air Corps.
During World War II, he flew 54 combat missions over Europe with the 57th Bomb Wing, before being shot down over the Brenner Pass in Northern Italy. His B-25 crew was imprisoned in a POW camp near Nuremberg, Germany. Hal escaped from the camp and returned to his outfit to finish out the war.
Discharged as a Captain, he held the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Purple Heart, six Air Medals, a Presidential Unit Citation and the POW Medal.
In civilian life, he served as a YMCA professional for 16 years and as a college administrator for 17 years. He also served as Executive Director of the 57th Bomb Wing Reunion Association for 14 years during this time.
In San Antonio, he was President of the American Laminating Company for nine years. An active golfer, Hal was a member of the Fair Oaks Ranch and Country Club, where he served as Chairperson of the Scholarship Committee for 14 years.
