Dearest Leona…Miz Wilkins…I just found Hal’s obituary online as I was searching for your address. I am so sorry for your loss some 12 years ago of your beloved Hal. He was an upright and wonderful man…so generous. I want you to know that you impacted my life, my faith, and my love for Jesus more than I can say. You graciously took me under your wing when I was a struggling young mother, showered me with blessings, and taught me what it means to be a Proverbs 31 woman. I’ve unfortunately lost track of you but assume you are in San Antonio where you and Hal left your hearts while you were in Greenville, Mi. I first met Mr. Wilkins when Laura was in my second grade class. Laura, Linda and I soon become fast friends. Our friendship has continued through the miles and the years. I spent many hours with the Wilkins? family when they lived in Atlanta and was sad when they moved away in 1962. Mr. Wilkins was my first ?boy friend? and I continued to call him by that title. The Wilkins are such a loving and caring family. My heart goes out to all of you. I know your memories will hold him in your hearts forever. I am so glad I knew such a fine person. Dear Wilkins Family: Please accept my deepest sympathies on the loss of your beloved. There are never any right words to express how deeply sad I am for the pain your family is enduring at this difficult time. Although I did not have the honor and pleasure of knowing him, as Chair of the Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs and Military Installations, I am sincerely thankful for his valiant service in defense of our rights and freedom. His commitment to family, friends, our community, and to serving our great nation leaves a wonderful legacy. May the love and the wonderful memories you shared with him help you when you need it most. He will never be forgotten, and your family will be remembered in my prayers.

Hal was a great friend for over 50 years. He was always a very loyal and caring friend and family man. He also lived his life in a manner that was a real testimony to his love of Christ and that had a profound impact on all that were in his presence. He will always be remembered in a most positive manner.

Hal and I worked together at Westinghouse Appliance Division in Columbus and Pittsburgh several years. We shared our common faith as followers of Jesus many times and Hal was an inspiration to me and many others. We will meet up again in heaven at God's appointed time, praise the Lord!

Our lives were enriched by our friendship with Hal and Lee while we were living in San Antonio a few years ago. He will be missed by his family, the community, all his friends at his church and at The Salvation Army. We thank our God for every remembrance of Hal and his family and our prayers will be with them as they mourn the loss of their husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
