Born in San Antonio January 24, 1935 to Marion and Harry Fish, she graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 1953 and attended the University of Texas where she met Elliott Cohen. They were married in 1954 and enjoyed a wonderful life together for 53 years.
After spending two years in Big Spring, Texas, when Elliott served in the U.S. Air Force, they lived in Austin, Texas where both of their wonderful sons, Bobby and Alan, were born. Harriet returned to San Antonio with Elliott in 1960 to join her parents in opening a new retail business, The Woman's Shop, Inc. that was to grow into a substantial chain of stores over the years.
As a young girl she loved her summers at the YWCA camp in Comfort, Texas and her many high school activities. Having grown up in a family that had been in the retail apparel business for many years, Harriet had a never ending love for fashion and always dressed accordingly.
Besides being a fabulous homemaker, wife and mother Harriet loved being with people and contributing to the community. She cherished the warmth and companionship of close friendships developed over her lifetime. In addition to being a life-long member of Temple Beth-El, Harriet served on numerous boards and committees throughout the years, including the Winston School, the Southwest Foundation Forum, Town North YMCA, Friends of Ronald McDonald, the Kingman Foundation of Santa Rosa Hospital, the San Antonio Library Foundation and the Cancer Center Council of CTRC.
She and her husband were fortunate to be able to travel to many places and to enjoy years of relaxation and good times at their lake house on Lake LBJ with family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Elliott, her sons and daughters-in-law Bobby and Pam Cohen and children Matthew, Emily and Benjamin Cohen of San Antonio and Alan and Brooke Cohen and children Audrey and Hank Cohen of Dripping Springs, Texas. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, James and Beverly Wolf Fish of Houston, her uncle, Alfred Ginewsky of Long Boat Key, Florida, many very caring nephews, nieces, cousins and their spouses, and extended family members, Amparo Deptawa and her daughter, Xochitl Deptawa.
