

Harry Joseph Burns, 83, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away Wednesday, March 03, 2011 with his family at his side. He was born January 30, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri to Theresa and Harry J. Burns.
He moved to San Antonio at age five. He was educated in Catholic schools, graduating from Central Catholic High School in 1944. Harry received a B.B.A. from St. Mary's University in 1948. He graduated from St. Mary's University School of Law in 1951 and was a practicing attorney for nearly 60 years.
He served as President of the San Antonio Bar Association 1970-71 and as a Director of the State Bar of Texas 1972-75. He served in the Texas National Guard, 36th Infantry Division 1947 - 1960 retiring with the rank of Major.
He was appointed a Judge on the Court of Military Appeals. He was a member of the Texas Cavaliers, served as President of Bexar Kiwanis Club and as President of the Town Club. Harry served on the Board of Directors of the Westside Bank.
He was a "scratch" golfer, playing at Willow Springs Golf Course, Oak Hills Country Club and San Antonio Country Club.
He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas Martin Burns and his parents.
Harry is survived by his wife of sixty years, Olive "Tucker" Martin Burns; son, Paul Michael "Mike" Burns and wife, Suzanne; daughter, Mary Elizabeth "Molly" Burns Banowetz, and husband, Leon; grandchildren, Lila and Weston; and, of course, his beloved dogs Sapphire and Batman.
