Harry Sinclair Affleck Jr. lived a life defined by love, loyalty, and a spirit that filled every room he entered. He passed away on March 2, 2026, at the age of 85, leaving behind a legacy of strength, humor, and generosity that will be carried forward by all who knew him.
Born on December 25, 1940, in San Antonio, Texas, to Ethel Newton Affleck and Harry Sinclair Affleck, Harry grew into a man whose presence was truly larger than life. He was intelligent, funny, kind, and deeply loving—a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Harry graduated from Texas Military Institute in San Antonio before earning a Bachelor of Arts from Southern Methodist University, where he was a proud member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. His education shaped not only his intellect but also many of the lifelong friendships and values he carried with him throughout his life.
For 59 years, he built a life together marked by devotion, laughter, and unwavering support with his wife, Linda Johnston Affleck. He was the proud father of Linda Affleck Stewart and her husband Drew, and Harry Sinclair Affleck III and his wife Heather. Nothing brought him more joy than being “Poppy” to his four beloved grandchildren—Margy, Drew Jr., Harry IV, and Annabelle—each of whom he cherished and celebrated with boundless pride.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel Newton Affleck and Harry Sinclair Affleck, his sister, Ethel Affleck Johnson, and her husband, Johnny Clay Johnson.
Harry was a successful businessman, respected for his integrity and admired for his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. His friendships ran deep, built on loyalty, humor, and a genuine interest in others. He was an active and longtime member of several cherished San Antonio institutions and social clubs, including the San Antonio Country Club, The Argyle, The Order of the Alamo, San Antonio German Club, and Texas Order of St. Hubertus, organizations that reflected his love of tradition, camaraderie, and the outdoors.
He found his greatest peace at his ranch in South Texas. Whether hunting, fishing, or simply spending time with family and friends, the ranch was where his heart felt most at home. He also enjoyed traveling, embracing the chance to see new places and share those experiences with the people he loved. Those who shared those moments with him will forever remember his laughter echoing across the land he loved.
Harry was deeply respected by family and friends alike. His kindness, his strength, and his larger than life spirit leave an imprint that will not fade.
A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, March 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 510 Belknap Place, in San Antonio.
