

Harry W. Titus was born at 620 East Main Street, Emmett, Idaho, May 19, 1931. He was delivered at home by a doctor who lived two doors from his home. He attended Emmett High School, spent two years and a summer at Stanford University and then attended the University of Idaho at Moscow, Idaho where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology which prepared him to enter dental school. He entered Western Reserve Dental School at Cleveland, Ohio, in 1953 and was a graduate in 1957. He had a year of private dental practice in Cleveland, Ohio and was inducted into the United States Air Force. He had tours of duty in Thule, Greenland, Hill Air Force Base, Utah, and Yokata and Tachikawa Air Force Bases in Japan. He met his future wife, Mary N. Davenport at the Tachikawa hospital where she was an Occupational Therapist. They were married in 1965. The couple returned to the United States. She was stationed at Travis AFB and he at Hamilton AFB, California. In 1969 their daughter, Laura Nelle Titus was born. The family was transferred to Columbus AFB, Mississippi. From there they were stationed at Brindisi, Italy, and then Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. They returned to San Antonio, Texas to Kelly AFB, where, in 1981, Dr. Titus retired. During his Air Force Career, Dr. Titus received The Meritorious Service Cross, AF Longevity Service Award with four oak leaf clusters, The National Defense Service Medal, and the AF outstanding Unit Award with three oak leaf clusters. The day after retiring, Dr. Titus accepted a teaching position at the University of Texas Dental School at San Antonio. Dr. Titus rose to the rank of Associate Professor at the dental school and retired in 2003. In retirement, Dr. Titus pursued his hobbies of gardening, doing watercolor painting and was very active in the affairs of St. George Episcopal Church. Dr. Titus is survived by his daughter, Laura Nelle Titus of Chicago, Illinois and his sister Lois Hays of Anchorage, Alaska. Harry was greatly loved by many in his church, neighborhood and community and will be missed by all. Special thanks goes to Patricia (Tricia) Cruz, to whom Harry referred to as “his angel”. Tricia spent endless hours ensuring Harry’s comfort his last few weeks and all of Harry’s friends and loved ones are so grateful to her.
