

Harvey Stephen Moltz, known affectionately by friends and family as Stephen, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2024, in San Marcos, Texas. Born on January 31, 1945, in New York, NY, Stephen was a man of kindness, boundless creativity, and an ever-present friendly demeanor that endeared him to all who knew him.
Stephen's early years in New York laid the foundation for a life marked by achievement and service. His educational journey culminated in a BA from the University of Nevada – Reno. His dedication and leadership skills were further showcased through his involvement in ROTC during college, leading to a commission in the US Army. Stephen served his country with distinction and was honorably discharged as a Captain in 1971.
Professionally, Stephen's expertise in lighting engineering and design for commercial installations was highly regarded. His innovative work illuminated spaces and lives, reflecting his innate ability to blend functionality with aesthetic appeal.
Beyond his professional life, Stephen had many interests. He became a dedicated fan of the University of Alabama's football team, his enthusiasm for the sport culminating in a cherished meeting with Coach Nick Saban. Stephen's love for his community was evident through his role as co-chair of the Social Action Committee of Congregation Ohabai Sholom in Nashville, TN. His deep involvement in many congregation activities reflected his commitment to social justice and community service.
A Master Gardener, Stephen's nurturing spirit extended to his flowering plants, which he tended with love and patience. His garden was a place of tranquility for both him and those fortunate enough to experience its beauty.
Stephen's outgoing nature helped him develop a broad network of friends wherever he lived, from his native New York to Nevada, California, Ohio, Tennessee, and finally Texas. People were drawn to his warmth and genuine interest in others, and he cherished the relationships he built throughout his life.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, Manual and Sylvia (Mittmann) Moltz. Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife Sheila Day Moltz, his children Lauren Carlisle and husband Robert, Evan Moltz, and cherished grandchild Quintin Carlisle.
Stephen’s memory will continue to inspire and guide those who were blessed to know him. His journey through life was a testament to the impact one individual can have on the world around them, and his presence will be deeply missed.
