My mother lived in the same col-de-sac area as Hattie at a beautiful mobile home park in Hollywood Park, San Antonio. She was a good friend and good neighbor to Hattie, and vice-versa. Her name is Pat Duryea. I'm her son, Kent. It was the Christmas season 2002 when Mom's health took a turn for the worse. I would leave messages on her phone for all who were concerned with updates to her condition at the hospital. Hattie was the one who most wanted to know how she was doing and pleaded that the updates keep coming. Hattie was a sweet lady. There was this jolly rasp to her voice that would tickle me into a smile every time she'd speak. The concern she expressed for my mother impressed me no end. Mom would tell me this and that about her-- all good. Mom didn't make to Christmas day and Hattie was saddened greatly by her passing. The one material thing I'll always cherish from Mom is her big black purse. Hattie gave it to her as a gift. They are neighbors once again. Only now, there will be no more sadness in their eternal homes. Their lives will live on in the hearts of those who loved them. Mom never did like goodbyes, so let me just say to Hattie... rest well, sweetheart. It's now September 2007 and you're still loved and remebered. --Kent Duryea

Hattie was a wonderful friend. I feel truly blessed to have known her and have shared a friendship for just under fifty years.

Hattie was a very dear friend and will be missed so much. She had such a great personality and so much fun to be around. I Geneva worked with Hattie for many years at Ridgeview Elementary. That's when I met her and Ed. Love and sincere blessings to her family.

I was saddened to hear of Hattie's passing. I worked with Hattie at Colonial Hills Elementary School. She will be missed.

I always will remember Hattie. She was very wonderful to me when I first came to Colonial Hills. Her friendship and laughter was missed by so many when she retired. During grievous times such as this it can be comforting to review what the Bible says concerning God?s wonderful promise for our loved ones. Various accounts regarding the resurrection give a guarantee for the future resurrection to life on a beautiful paradise earth. The most outstanding account is Jesus bringing his dear friend Lazarus back to life as found at John 11:32-48. Others can be found at Luke 7:11-15 and Luke 8:49-56. Jesus himself said at John 5:28,29 that those in the memorial tombs would hear his voice and come out. Act 24:15 shows how loving our Heavenly Father is to arrange a resurrection even for those who have not yet shown if they would comply to God?s righteous standards.
