

Hawthorne moved to Dumaguete, Negros Oriental at age 11 with her parents and siblings because her mother was offered a teaching position at Silliman University. All four of the children became students at Silliman University. After graduating from high school, she moved to Manila for her college education at Philippine Women's University where she acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree in May 1959.
After her graduation from college, Hawthorne came to the United States and lived in Los Angeles, California, where she met and married her husband, Charles O'Rourke. In the late 1960s the couple moved to Corvallis, Oregon where they established a prosperous and luxurious life with Hawthorne's numerous business ventures and Charles' stable job. Hawthorne spent most of her life in Oregon until they relocated in April 2021, to San Antonio, Texas.
Hawthorne lived a full and blessed life for 86 years. She and husband Charles traveled extensively to Europe. Hawthorne also spent a great amount of time ministering to people and bringing many to the Lord. She was a prayer warrior naming each family member and friends asking God's guidance and blessing on them.
Hawthorne is survived by her daughter Kelly Kirkpatrick and grandchildren, Preston and Britney Whitlock; sisters, Myrna Kline and Joy Mecenas
