After receiving an honorable discharge he met, fell in love with and married the former Thelma Scheel. They loved their four children deeply, Dana, Hector Jr., Mark and Roger Perez. His granddaughter Marina, is the love of his life, and he would light up whenever he saw her. Marina also loved her grandpa deeply.
He never met a stranger he did not like or them him. He had a way of bringing laughter into a room without much effort. Playing pool, fishing watching the Spurs and Cowboys games, having coffee and a cigarette with his friends were some of his past times. He also enjoyed various types of music, especially Tejano, Country music and of course, the Rock and Roll of the sixties.
At times, he would play his guitar with whatever music was playing in the background. He might have been in a wheelchair moving slowly, but this man had real rhythm when he could dance. Hector had fought medical problems for the last twenty years but he never gave up and always had a smile for everyone.
God called him home on August 16, 2013 while at the Audie Lee Murphy Veterans Hospital in San Antonio, Texas.
He left behind seven siblings, Victor, Marie, Rosalinda, Jane, Alma, Robert and Raymond. We all miss his daily calls to us. He always kept in touch with his children and his siblings. The love, joy, laughter and impressions he left behind will remain indefinitely.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the wonderful and dedicated personnel in the dialysis Center and MICU who cared for Hector at ALM Veterans Hospital. He considered all of them his friends.
