

Helen Henrietta Herbold was born the first of four daughters of Frank Herbold and Gertrude Barnett Herbold on May 14, 1919 in Thayer, Missouri and departed this life on July 13, 2016 at the age of 97 years.
She was married to Grant Robert Butler on May 5, 1945 in Albany, New York, who preceded her in death on September 30, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Ann Dunn (Butler), and her sisters, Violet Mae Gray Wright, Frankie Spoor, and Pearl Aims.
Helen served in the U. S. Army from August 1943 to August 1945 where she met Grant Robert Butler and later married on May 5, 1945 in Albany, New York. They had two children, Patricia Ann Butler and Robert Carroll Butler, and lived in San Antonio until their retirement in 1980. They spent their remaining years in Canyon Lake, Texas.
She is survived by her son, Robert Butler, and wife Angela Butler, of Spring Branch, Texas; granddaughters Elise Duvall (Butler) and her husband Tyler Duvall of Houston, Texas, and Kristin Butler of Spring Branch, Texas.
During her time as a Clerk General in the Army, she received the WAAC (Women's Army Auxiliary Corps) Service Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal for her service, and became a driver for a General on post at Ft. Dix in New Jersey. After her marriage to Grant Butler, his military career took them to San Antonio, Texas, where their daughter Patricia Ann was born, and later to Tokyo, Japan where Robert Carroll was born. His career took them to Europe as well where they lived in Orleans, France for a time. They returned to San Antonio where Grant retired from the Army and took up teaching, while Helen went to work at Robert E. Lee High School.
While living in San Antonio, she was an attendance secretary at Robert E. Lee High School. After retirement, she volunteered at BAMC (Brooke Army Medical Center) with her husband Grant Butler. She was also an active member of the Canyon Lake Women's Republican Club and the Order of the Eastern Star.
