Decoteau, Helen Mena passed, surrounded by loved ones, January 18, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas at age 82 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Project oriented, surely doing projects in the afterlife. A fierce provider and caregiver for her son Ruben, ALWAYS making him safe, healthy, and loved to the very end. Ruben said, “she was hardcore to the bone.” Helen was a private investigator, caterer, chef, furniture restorer, gardener, seamstress, and jewelry designer. Most memorable as Chef of the Austin HWY VFW 8541, featuring German cuisine. Helen loved listening and dancing to music. Helen is survived by her three children, Lisa Mares and husband Stephen, Ruben Lopez, and Janet Allen and husband Mike; Grandchildren: Megan Rådesjö, Nicholas Nanes, Marina Mares, and Ashlyn Allen; Great-Grandchildren: Kamas Held, Thomas Bernal, and Ingrid Rådesjö; brother Klaus Hornung, sister Ellen Schumacher, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
