Helen R. Gray

Helen was born June 15, 1937, in Coffeeville, Mississippi to the late Howard and Mary Martin. She had two sisters, Grace and Nita, and a younger brother, Bobby.

While on a double date in 1954, she met the man who she would stand by for the rest of her life, Joe Dean Gray of Bruce, Mississippi. Helen and Joe were married on October 9, 1954, and spent the next 67 years loving and supporting each other until Joe’s death in June 2022.

Helen is preceded in death by, her husband, Joe Dean Gray, her parents, and her older sister, Grace. She is survived by her children, James Gray of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Cathy Gray Anzaldua of San Antonio, Texas; daughters-in-law Sandy and Lisa; grandchildren, Chris, Evan, and Cameron; great grandchildren Ayden, Ansleigh, Annelise, and McKenna; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, family, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 11:00 am, at Porter Loring Mortuary West, 1710 W. Loop 1604 N, San Antonio, TX 78251. A service will be held immediately following in the Porter Loring Chapel. Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
