

Helen Thompson Hobbs passed peacefully on September 16, 2003 in San Antonio, TX. Helen was born in Dallas, TX on July 31, 1920, to Charles M. and Marie Thompson. She attended SMU and pledged Zeta Tau Alpha. She met and married Leon Fair Russ, Jr. in 1942. Leon died in 1956. Helen resided in San Antonio for approximately 50 years.
In 1959 she married William G. Hobbs. Several years later, they moved to La Jolla, CA and enjoyed playing golf and entertaining at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. They also traveled frequently. Europe and China were some of their favorite destinations. William Hobbs died in the late 1970's. Helen loved La Jolla, her friends, gardening, playing bridge and traveling. Her daughters and her grandchildren spent many summers in La Jolla with her.
Helen returned to San Antonio in 2000 due to health and to be closer to her family. She is survived by two daughters, Virginia Fair Russ and Christine Russ Butler; son-in-law Richard Earl Butler, grandchildren, Tina Yturria Buford and husband Trey Buford, Quita Yturria Butler, Thomas Noah Smith, IV and wife Margaret, Leon Russ Smith and wife Yvette and Alissa Virginia Smith. She also has two great-grandchildren, Francisco Yturria Buford and Madelyn Maria Smith. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to Adriana Acuna who unselfishly cared for Helen and enriched Helen's life in so many ways.
There will be a memorial service at Hillcrest Cemetery, in Dallas, TX a later date.
