She is survived by her sons John Ashby Mack of Atlanta GA, his wife Christine, and their children Emma and Frances, and Thomas Lane Mack, of Charleston SC and his wife, Ilke Christine Piel. Additionally, she is survived by her sister Mimi McGehee of Houston and her brother Thomas McGehee of San Antonio along with his wife Trinka and their children, Maggie, Sarah and Thomas. Not least of which, we should remember her faithful friend Murphy, her beloved if not outspoken Maltese.
Helen was born on June 28, 1946 in Greenwood MS. Relocating to San Antonio in youth, Helen attended Woodridge Elementary, Alamo Heights Junior and High Schools and attended Texas Tech University, where she met her husband, John Lewis Mack, Jr.
Returning to San Antonio on 1980, Helen found a solid career in the banking industry where her attention to people and her easy charm made her a favorite among customers.
A lifelong parishioner of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Helen devoted countless hours in various guilds and roles, not least of which as a proud member of the Daughters of the King.
Helen was a devoted mother, supporting the varied interests of her sons and their wives and grandchildren. A loving daughter, sister and friend to many, she will be greatly missed and has been warmly remembered by all in numerous toasts and anecdotes this Christmas season. While she was not with us, her recipes were honored and Helen's presence was decidedly among those of us missing her this year.
A memorial service is to be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church (11 St. Luke's Lane, San Antonio, TX, 78209) on Friday, 5 January, 2018, at 2pm with a reception immediately to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Helen.
In lieu of flowers, we believe Helen would appreciate donations to the American Cancer Society, and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
