Helene was born in San Antonio on March 4, 1929, to Meyer & Cecile Katz. She is survived by her husband, Arthur Riklin; children, Rand Riklin (Martha), Tara Schiller (Jeff), and Scot Riklin; brother, Ronald Katz (Helaine); grandchildren, Calli Levin (Dan), Bradi Schiller, Morgan Riklin, Marina Riklin, step granddaughter, Sarah Beck; and great-grandchildren, Zahara & Asher Levin.
Helene was a talented woman with a lovely sense of style. She was a skilled artist, a dedicated student of art with a refined eye for excellence. She was an avid reader, loving mother, caring homemaker, a model, an accomplished ballroom dancer, cancer survivor, and devoted wife. Helene was fiercely loyal & loved her family above all else. She had a wry sense of humor that she needed when the subject of her cooking was discussed. Once at her home, a family friend helped himself to some “appetizers” while she was in the kitchen, only to be later informed that it was a bowl of aromatic potpourri. Helene enjoyed sweets and became a brilliant baker of cheesecake and chocolate chip cookies.
The family is very appreciative of the care she received from: Cynthia Smith, Hope Guerra, Patricia Acosta, and Heather Patterson.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Helene’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, American Committee for the Weizmann Institute on Science (ACWIS), Christians United for Israel (CUFI), University of Texas Health San Antonio (UTHSA) or the charity of your choice.
