
Henry Goodson Barber passed at 6:00 PM, Monday, August 5, 2002. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Corine Jones Barber. He was born in Parker County, Weatherford, Texas, on January 13, 1906 to Mr. and Mrs. W. Barber. He was the second son in a family of nine children. He graduated from Weatherford Junior College and held a Masters Degree from Texas A & M University. A sister and four brothers, his son, Don Randall Barber of San Antonio, Texas, and his wife, Ann; three grandchildren, Ann Blake Barber of Houston, Texas, Don Randall Barber, II of San Antonio, Texas, and Kathryn Barber Eckel and her husband, Steve; one great grandchild, Miller Susan Eckel survived him. Henry was a loving and devoted father, caring grandfather, practicing Christian and a committed schoolteacher. He taught 8 years in Parker and Fisher counties, 4 years in Harold, Texas, and then moved to Floydada, Texas, where he taught for 30 years. He retired in 1969 and moved back to Weatherford where he lived until July 1991. At that time, he moved to a retirement home in San Antonio. Henry Barber was active in all his communities. He was a practicing Baptist, a registered Democrat, a Mason and a member of the Chamber of Commerce as well as a life member of the Retired Teachers Association of Texas. He help organize the Parker County Chapter of the Retired Teachers Association and served as it's first president. He served as president of the Floydada, Texas, Rotary Club and was the state president of the Vocational Teachers of Texas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Floydada, Texas, where he taught a men's Sunday School Class; was chairman of the Board of Deacons for 30 years, chaired a pastor search committee; and sang in the church choir. When he moved to Weatherford, Texas, he joined the First Baptist Church of Weatherford where he was an active member. He was currently a member of Trinity Baptist Church of San Antonio. Texas.
