Henry was my first SJA as a JAG.  I have very fond memories of him and our team's escapades in the Offutt legal office.  Most important, I learned a great deal from him and he helped set my course as a JAG.  He was an intelligent, gifted writer who insisted on integrity and ethical behavior and admonished us to always give him our honest opinion and advice - no matter what we thought he might want to hear.  He was also a great comedian, who kept us laughing and happy.  He loved his country and had a deep and boundless passion for his  profession.  He is one of the great and most  memorable people I had the pleasure to know.  May he rest in peace and smile on us all! Jarisse Sanborn

A beautiful ceremony, perfectly crisp and concise, and a wonderful reflection of Colonel Green.  I had the privilege and honor of working for Henry – though I only called him that once after I had retired and still found it completely awkward – first in Washington, D.C., where he was my boss, and second at the Keesler Medical Center, where he was the Major Command Staff Judge Advocate.  He was my mentor, sponsor, inspirational leader, and friend.  He taught me or reinforced many seemingly simple and obvious concepts of right and wrong, both in a military and human sense.  Though he could be quite stern, he was also lots of fun to be around, loved his work and life, and spread that infectious love of both around.  I must confess to being the errant miscreant who gave him, as my going away present, the rubber snake and apple that somehow ended up in a Ficus tree in the Chaplain’s Building atrium at Bolling AFB, one of several things Colonel Green willingly took the hit for on my behalf.  He was responsible for my selection for two major opportunities in the Air Force that defined my career and life.  We stayed in contact after I left active duty in 1991 and joined the private sector and Air Force Reserves.  After the fall of the Soviet Union, on a plane returning from Europe, he wrote me a deeply reflective letter that was largely prophetic of what would take place.  Perhaps it was prophetic personally, as well, as I later managed two environmental support contracts in the Former Soviet Union and observed the conversion process first-hand.  And married a wonderful lady who Colonel Green graciously took to lunch several years later when work took her to Austin – they had a wonderful time together and Alma saw immediately why I had such deep, lasting respect for this wonderful man of zero pretenses.  I regret that we fell out-of-touch and that my recent efforts were unsuccessful.  My memories of the important work we accomplished and the great fun we had doing it will have to do.  Rest in Peace, Colonel Green, you left your mark on all you met, served your country flawlessly, with highest honor, dignity, integrity, and just the right level of good-natured fun. My wife, Kathy, and I send our condolences to everyone who had the privilege of knowing Colonel Henry Green.    I was fortunate as a captain to have been one of the many young judge advocates Colonel Green mentored during his storied career.  That mentorship included his letting me drive his black Cadillac to escort a Court of Military Appeals judge and his wife during their visit to San Antonio.  My short career flashed before my eyes when the judge encouraged me to parallel-park the car outside a downtown restaurant.  He got out of the car and guided me ... right into the bumpers of the cars behind AND in front of me.  Colonel Green's temper and sense of humor were already legendary at that time and I wondered which I'd see when I told him what happened.  Fortunately, it was the sense of humor.  Sir, you will be missed by everyone whose lives you touched.  Thank you for your service, your mentorship, and the legacy you left our beloved JAG Corps. We will remember Colonel Green as a generous, kind and loyal gentleman.  Long after retirement, Colonel Green treated Suzie and me, a young AF family, with his ‘exuberant grace’  and sincere  joy.  God bless.

"Mean" Henry Green never was mean.  He was a great lawyer, a great patriot, a great officer, a great friend, and a great legend in the Air Force JAG Corps.  We speak of him often, and will miss him always.  Heaven will benefit from his wisdom, humor, and counsel.  Godspeed, sir.  So many lives are the better for having crossed paths with you.  You will always be a role model and inspiration.

Farewell Henry.  You will be missed but always remembered.  A legend has passed but his story will be told (and retold) for years to come.

I had the privilege of attending Colonel Green's funeral ceremony at Ft Sam Houston today.  It was a beautiful day!  As a protege, he taught me that a military funeral should be crisp, and mercifully brief.  He would have been pleased.  May you rest in peace , Sir. Frank Pulis,  Lt Colonel USAF, Retired.

Henry was a friend, a neighbor and a mentor to my "red-headed grandkids" that cherished every moment that they were with him. Henry was a man of principles that were passed on to most of us that really knew him. He reflected wisdom, love of our country and most of all, justice for all. He influenced all of my grandkids to read and know how important education was to their future. We will miss him but we will never forget his kindness and generosity to our family and friends. Henry and I were close friends for 55 years.  We met at Beale AFB in 1965. We served at many of the same locations in California, Turkey, Colorado Springs, Washington, DC and San Antonio, TX.  I knew many of Henry's family and friends---and there were many---and we traveled with some of them in various places in Canada, Asia, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Henry had a gifted mind, sense of humor, and sense of compassion.  Our heart goes out to all who knew Henry--his life will be celebrated and not forgotten.

Our sincere sympathy is extended to the family during this difficult time.  Colonel Henry Green  was a living legend back in the day during my active duty days. Henry could get away with saying what was on his mind, that others might be thinking, but would dare not say.  He loved the USAF JAG Corps. Colonel Henry Green was a larger than life figure in the Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps. Even though very few of us still serving, like John Martinez, personally remember Colonel Green, his legacy to the Corps remains legendary.  He was renowned for his energetic advocacy for the highest principles of the law, for the role of the JAG Corps in helping maintain high standards across the Air Force, and for his people. His writing was eloquent, and his sense of humor and stories still echo. There was never a greater cheerleader for the Air Force JAG community than Henry.  He was so very devoted to the ideals and principles of the AF JAG Family.
