Born on November 13, 1942, in Wheatland, Michigan, to the late Jesús and Mary Hurtado, Henry lived a life full of love, laughter, and deep devotion to his family, country, and community.
In 1966, Henry proudly served in the U.S. Army, where he was stationed overseas in Korea. A proud veteran, he remained active in the community through his involvement with his local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) post, where he shared camaraderie and connection with his fellow servicemen.
Henry had a zest for life that was contagious. A dedicated fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs, he could often be found cheering for his teams on game days. He loved music, dancing, and good food—and he had a way of turning every gathering into a celebration. His passion for gardening reflected his nurturing spirit, and he took great pride in caring for his children and grandchildren, always putting family first. Whether it was a game of pool, a family BBQ, or a Sunday spent surrounded by loved ones, Henry was the heart and soul of every moment.
He is now reunited in heaven with his parents, Jesús and Mary Hurtado; his siblings, Lupe Lopez, Jesse Tovar, Luis Tovar, Paul Tovar, Lydia Moreno, and Beatrice T. Gonzalez; his late wife, Stella Tavarez; and his lifelong partner, Mary Rodriguez.
Henry’s memory will live on through those who loved him most: His brothers, Cruz Hurtado and David Hurtado; His daughter, Melissa Hurtado Marsh; His bonus children, Tony Ruiz, Monica Bennette, Lupe Castaneda (Denise), and David Gomez (Debbie Martinez); His grandchildren, Kristian J. Castillo (Mary), Jeremiah J. Castillo, Ellayna V. Marsh, Kristian Castillo, Andrick Castillo, Roslynn Castillo, Daveigh Castaneda, Jadden Castaneda, Sophie Gomez, Jax Gomez, and Emma Gomez.
Henry’s legacy is one of joy, service, love, and resilience. He was the life of the party, a guiding light to many, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
