Henry Martinez, 55, joined our Lord while his loving family held his hand on Monday, September 20th, 2021, in New Braunfels, Texas. He was born to parents Joe & Mary Eva Martinez on September 29th, 1965, in San Antonio, Texas and was a proud graduate of South Side High School’s Class of 1983. In his younger years, Henry was a ball of energy who loved playing with his brother and cousins. He was known to be smart, ambitious, fun-loving, and was always ready to conquer any obstacle that life put in his path. Throughout his life, people were drawn to Henry because of his jokester spirit and his ability to focus on the positive things in life.
Henry loved life and exploring the world but the thing he loved most was his family. Family and friends meant everything to him. He treated his children and siblings with love, never forgot a birthday, and was the kind of person who always sent out birthday and holiday messages to make sure no one felt forgotten. After a hard day’s work, he loved to treat himself by going on vacations and retreats. Kickapoo was his favorite casino to visit with family and friends. Henry will be greatly missed by his family....but the casino owners in Oklahoma and Las Vegas might miss him more!
Aside from his family and friends, Henry’s greatest devotion was to the military. He convinced his parents to let him join the United States Army with his friend Alex at the age of 17. He spent four years on active duty with the Army then enlisted in the United States Airforce for two years. He supported numerous veterans throughout his life and was a true patriot.
Henry loved gambling, fishing, collecting coins, dancing, and listening to music. Some of his favorite musicians were Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, George Strait, and Britney Spears. After his service with the military, Henry started driving commercial vehicles and ended up working for FedEx Freight where he spent the rest of his career and earned several recognition and achievement awards. One of his favorite things about working at FedEx was his coworkers, many of which became friends and brought him immense joy.
To our loving brother, father & friend, Henry Martinez, we will forever cherish your memory and never forget all the love, laughter, and joy you brought into our lives. May your spirit live on through us so we can continue your legacy of happiness and love for life.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Joe A and Mary Eva Martinez. He is survived by his children Joseph Martinez, Stephanie Martinez, Phylisha Martinez, Katrina Martinez, Mckenna Martinez; 4 grandchildren; siblings, James Martinez (Ida), Susan Martinez (Roger Kirksey), Mary Eva Martinez (Ken Kessler); Fiancée, Heather Bedgood; numerous cousins nieces and nephews, and many loving friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm on Wednesday, October 13th, 2021, at Porter Loring Mortuary on McCullough with rosary beginning at 7 pm.
