Henry A. Valla, Jr, died on December 8, 2021 at the age of 82. Born on August 7, 1939 and raised in New York City, the fifth of six children. Hank joined the U.S. Army at age 18. He served 20 non-consecutive years, including overseas assignments in Germany, Vietnam, Japan, and Italy, specializing in signal intelligence.
Henry married Ethel, his wife of 52 years, in 1969 and during his assignment at Ft. Sam Houston, they chose to make San Antonio their home. After retiring from the Army in 1981, Henry joined the Bexar Appraisal District, retiring in 1999.
Henry earned his college degree from the University of Maryland University College. He enjoyed jazz music, poker games, supported veterans' causes, was an animal lover, and was a fountain of wisdom through what we now call dad jokes. Henry is survived by his wife Ethel, son Scott daughter Jennifer and her husband Matthew, and his brother Frank and sister-in-law Camille.
Committal service will be at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, March 18, 2022 at 9:45am.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Animal Defense League of San Antonio, K9’s for Warriors, or Parkinson's Foundation.
