

Herbert, affectionately known to his family and friends as Herby, Daddy or Popo, was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be dearly missed by all his family and numerous friends.
Herbert, born April 12, 1919 in Nordheim, Texas, and baptized in San Antonio in 1957 at the First Baptist Church, was called to be with his beloved Lord and Savior on February 21, 2017, at the age of 97. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Pauline Weaver Hedtke who died in 2008; a daughter, Janet Ellen Klabunde who died in 1988; his parents, Julius and Martha Hedtke; three brothers, Alfred, Rudolph and Gus; and two sisters Alfreda Rudolph and Adelweiss Hedtke. Hebert served in the Air Force during WW-2 between 1943 and 1946 in the European Theater.
Herbert is survived by a daughter, Martha Sue Wenzel and her husband David; four grandchildren, Krisopher Klabunde and wife, Ali, Kimberly Arnall and spouse, Vincent, Kevin Wenzel and spouse; April and Kory Klabunde and spouse, Margaret; eight great grandchildren, Mason, Justin, Amanda, Hannah, Blake, Makayla, Addison and Klarissa; and numerous nephews, nieces and friends.
Special thanks to Dr. Robert Schnitzler, Vicky and staff for 30+ years of excellent medical care and friendship. Also to nurse Melissa for years of kindness, care and hugs , and special friend and caregiver, Esmeralda, for her love and always going the extra mile with a smile on her face, and to all the Franklin Park Memory Care aides who made every day a happy day.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of your choice.
A visitation will be held, Monday, February 27, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, with a funeral service to be held in the chapel at 3:00 p.m. Interment to follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Expressions of sympathy can be made at www.sunsetfuneralhomesa.com.
