Herbert Lamar Kinard

Herbert Lamar Kinard, born November 11th 1927, in Starkville, Mississippi, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 28, 2012 at the age of 84, beloved by his family and many friends to whom he was devoted.

He is preceded in death by his parents Oscie Spurgeon Kinard and Sadie Effie McLaurin, four brothers and four sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Evelyn Kinard; one brother Vern; a son Gary and his wife, Nancy; two daughters, Roxanne Kruczek and her husband, Michael and Rhonda Bruce; 5 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Herb graduated from University of Florida in 1956 with a degree in business. He loved his University of Florida Gators and the Mississippi State Bulldogs and was an avid sports enthusiast and player. He was an active duty member of the United States Air Force and served two tours of duty in the Korean War as a B-29 pilot. He transferred from the Air Force to the United States Coast Guard Reserves where he retired as a Lt. Commander in 1971.

While stationed at Lackland Air Force base in 1949, Herb met the love of his life, Evelyn Kinard, an Air Force nurse. They married and eventually settled in San Antonio, Texas to raise and educate their family. Herb worked at Merrill Lynch as a successful stockbroker for many years retiring to his beloved "Monte Seco" in St. Hedwig, Texas in 1993.

He was a prominent member of the First Presbyterian Church in San Antonio and was a devout Christian who followed in the footsteps of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Herb was a good decent man, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who instilled courage, honesty, justice, faith and friendship into all he met.

He will be greatly missed by us all.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough Ave.
