Herbert Albert Lieck, passed away suddenly on February 10, 2021 at the age of 91. He was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas where he attended Fox Tech High School. Herb served in the US Army during the Korean War where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. Herb was well respected in the Commercial Refrigeration and Air Conditioning field, working for both City Carbonic Company and later HEB.
Herb was a very resourceful man and a do it yourselfer that could build just about anything out of anything, including his house and lake cabin. He was very meticulous in designing and executing his projects often coming up with ingenious ways to accomplish the task.
He enjoyed spending time at the lake, traveling and working on his various projects.
Friends described him as a kind man who was always willing to help anyone in need.
Herb was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Gruer Lieck, his parents Edmund and Margarite Lieck, and brothers Melvin, James and Irvin Lieck.
Mr. Lieck is survived by his children Susan Dickson and husband William, Thomas Lieck and wife Linda. Grandchildren Christina Zelenak (Tim), Greg Dickson, David Lieck (Laura) and Darrell Lieck. Great-grandchildren Wyatt and Cody Zelenak and Audrey Lieck. Numerous nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his loving companion of 24 years, Dolores Jackson, along with her children Michael, Peter and Jerome Jackson, Patricia Fallis, and her grandchildren Bonnie McCracken and Timothy Gideon whom he was especially close with, as well as her other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her daughter, Juanita Gideon, preceded him in death.
Visitation will take place March 2, 2021 from 1:00- 2:00 at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway. A funeral service, officiated by the Rev. Kay Johnson will follow at 2:00. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park.
