Herlinda "Linda" Fernandez Mabry

Herlinda "Linda" Fernandez Mabry, a beacon of joy and generosity, left this earth on October 12, 2024, at the age of 86, in her beloved hometown of San Antonio, TX. Born on October 11, 1938, to the late Margarita and Cruz Fernandez, Linda's life was a vibrant tapestry of love, service, and unwavering faith.

Linda's journey began as a proud San Antonian, where she would grow to become an integral part of the community. Her compassionate spirit and infectious smile touched many lives, as she devoted her working years to serving others through various roles. At Avon, she was known for her personable nature and her knack for making everyone feel like family. Her time at Taco Cabana saw her brightening days with her warmth, while her tenure as a custodian in Hawaii and at San Antonio Christian School left immeasurable imprints of her caring demeanor on the hearts of both students and staff.

Family was the cornerstone of Linda's life. She was a devoted wife to her late spouse, Bill Mabry, a loving mother to her son Ruben Ibarra, and a cherished sister to her late brother Roberto Fernandez and sister Lydia Hinojosa, along with her brother-in-law George Hinojosa. Her legacy continues through her surviving children, Richard R. Ibarra Jr., George Hinojosa (Becky Palomo), John Hinojosa, and Rachel Caldwell (Robert). Linda's sister, Mary Fernandez Rigal, will fondly remember the countless memories they shared. Her life was further enriched by the laughter and love of her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, who will carry forward her zest for life and her loving spirit.

A woman of faith, Linda was an active member of the Catholic Guadalupanas, where her dedication to her beliefs and her community was evident in her tireless volunteer work. Her passion for life was expressed through her love for the Lanier High School Blue Jackets, cheering for the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Cowboys, and her involvement with the Lanier Chili Bowl Committee.

Travel and exploration were some of Linda's greatest joys. Her favorite trip was a pilgrimage to Israel, a journey that deeply touched her soul. She also loved the adventure of cruising, which allowed her to experience the beauty of the world and the diversity of its people.

Linda's interests and activities were a reflection of her vibrant character. She was the life of the party, always ready to dance and make memories with those around her. Her great heart was evident in the way she embraced life and in her ability to always greet others with a smile.

Generous, interesting, and loving are words that only begin to describe Linda. She lived her life with an open heart, always willing to give and serve. Her presence was a gift to all who knew her, and her absence will be deeply felt.

As we bid farewell to Herlinda Fernandez Mabry, we celebrate the legacy she leaves behind—a legacy of love, laughter, and the power of a life well-lived. Her story does not end here, for she lives on in the hearts of those she touched, in the joy of the memories she created, and in the example she set for how to live a life full of passion and purpose.

Linda's life will be honored and remembered in a ceremony reflecting her faith and the impact she had on her community. She will be laid to rest in San Antonio, TX, surrounded by the people and the city she so dearly loved. Her light will continue to shine in the lives of her family and friends, and her memory will forever be a beacon of happiness and love.

A gathering of family & friends for Linda will be held Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a celebration of life starting at 7pm at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232. A graveside service will occur Friday, October 25, 2024 from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
