Herman Mendez Cortez, age 88, passed away April 26 ,2014 in Laredo, Texas. He was born in Cotulla, Texas on January 13, 1926 to Pedro G. and Demetria Mendez Cortez. Herman was a lifetime educator and a WWII Navy veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Zonia Guerra Cortez, sisters, Luz Cortez Ramirez of San Antonio, Clemencia C. Zamora of Chicago and Elena C. Casiano of Beltan. Herman is survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews and will be greatly missed by all. Visitation will be at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Bandera Road on Thursday, May 1, 2014 from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00P.M. with a rosary at 7:00 P.M. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 5919 Ingram Road 78228 with interment to follow at San Fernando Cemetery #2 with Navy military honors.
