

Hideko Ishida Toma passed from this earthly life on November 13, 2014 at the age of 90. She was born on March 1, 1924 in Oita, Japan. She married SSG Choei Toma and became an American citizen on June 13, 1956. She began her career working as a cashier with AAFES of Fort Ord, California and retired after 36 years of exemplary service as an accounting assistant on July 19, 2002 at Fort Sam Houston Post Exchange. She attended the Japanese Baptist Church in San Antonio. She was baptized on August 2, 2003 by Pastor Yutaka Takarada of the Japanese Baptist Church of North Texas. She was a talented seamstress, drafted patterns and sewed garments for neighbors while living in Puerto Rico. She loved music and played the mandolin and violin. She was talented in drawing and painting. She attended San Antonio College and took English and Art classes. She was a caring and giving person always putting others first, before herself. She will be truly missed by all of us.
She was preceded in death by her husband Choei Toma, her brother Dr. Kunio Ishida of Japan, brother-in-laws Maynard Henderson, Henry Griffith, Choki Toma and sister-in-law Kiyoko Toma. Survivors include her two sons Bobby Toma, wife Terry; Glenn Toma, wife Rosie; her daughter Evelyn Toma Wehman, husband Richard; five grandchildren, five great grandchildren. She also leaves behind a sister, Yoshiko Griffith; sister-in-law, Mitsuye Toma; sister-in-law, Yoneko and brother-in-law, GeorgeYamamoto; brother-in-laws, Chosei and Chokichi Toma and several nephews and nieces.
Following her wishes, the funeral service will be private with immediate family only. She will be cremated and buried with her husband at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
