Hilario was born October 21, 1939 to Ejidio and Josefa Villarreal. He lived an adventurous, fun filled, mischievous, and rambunctious young life in San Antonio, TX with his three brothers Jesus, Ruben, Ejidio Jr, two sisters Amparo, Consuelo, and many cousins, uncles, aunts, and friends nearby. After successfully surviving his childhood, he graduated from Fox Tech High School in 1958, where he lettered in football, and joined the Army in 1959. When his service in the Army was completed, he returned home to San Antonio, TX and worked Civil Service at Kelly Air Force Base where he earned his first retirement. He continued to work in various jobs until he decided to call it quits and stay home with his adoring wife Nora.
Hilario possessed an enormous heart and great sense of humor. He was strong-willed but very laid back, kind, generous, intelligent, and full of knowledge on many different subjects. He enjoyed sharing his life experiences with his four children, Laura, Daniel, Valerie, and Melanie, and many of their friends. His story telling created lifelong memories for many and are shared when reminiscing about the good ole days.
Besides loving his family unconditionally, Hilario had a passion for music. He enjoyed playing the guitar and harmonica and could be heard singing a Bob Dylan tune from time to time. It was no secret Bob Dylan was his favorite artist. He would frequently force, or strongly encourage, family members to listen to Dylan’s songs and would joyfully provide insight to the song’s thought-provoking lyrics. In addition to music, Hilario also enjoyed playing billiards. Throughout his life, he would spend countless hours at many pool halls fine tuning his game and playing against the best. According to him, he never lost. He also thoroughly enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, playing chess, horse racing, and watching sporting events.
Hilario is preceded in death by his parents Ejidio and Josefa Villarreal, brother Jesus Villarreal, sister Amparo Villarreal, and grandson Daniel Christopher Villarreal.
