He was raised in San Antonio and graduated from Brackenridge High School. Another of the "Greatest Generation," he served in WWII with the 36th Division Texas Division, 141st Infantry, landing at Salerno, Italy. He returned to San Antonio in 1996.
Hollis is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Vernell; 3 daughters, Janell Wolfe and husband Joe, Suzanne McConkey and husband Bob, and Connie Creel and husband Bill; 8 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
