It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter and granddaughter, Holly Marie Carroll, who left this world far too soon at the age of 14. She passed away unexpectedly on May 13th at 5:13am in San Antonio, Texas. She left behind her family, friends, and a community who loved her beyond words.
Holly Marie was born on October 6, 2010 in San Antonio, Texas. She was only a few days from graduating from St. George Episcopal School and was excited to attend Churchill High School in the Fall. She attended St. George from Pre-K thru 8th grade and loved her teachers, friends, and their families dearly. In her precious time on earth, she participated in cheerleading, dance, choir, musical theater, soccer, volleyball, and basketball. She was always singing, dancing, and twirling around the house, especially when she thought no one was looking. Holly was a role model student. She worked hard, she observed the world, she excelled in her classes making straight As every year, achieved numerous awards for excellence in all academic areas, and was a Beta Club member from 6th thru 8th grade. This year she held the office as the Sr. Vice President for the Beta Club. She found great joy in serving her school and community.
Holly was a radiant light in this world who loved God deeply, and her Catholic faith guided everything she did. She was simply a beautiful soul, fiercely intelligent, full of promise, and had a gift for making everyone feel seen and loved. Whether you were a close friend or a stranger, Holly made you feel welcome and treated you like family. She made friends easily, was among the first to include someone who felt left out, and brought joy into every room she entered. Her caring nature and thoughtful heart brought warmth to those around her, and her presence was a true gift. Holly had a beautiful soul that was pure and bright. She lived each day with grace, joy, and an unshakable love for the people in her life. She was especially known for her love of butterflies, a symbol of her gentle spirit and the beauty she brought into the world. From a young age, whenever Holly saw a butterfly, she would say that it was God’s way of telling her that He loved her. In fact, her loving spirit has gifted us with so many butterflies this week that only shows her family how much she loved them too. She loved her mother, grandparents, and family deeply, cherished her school, and was the kind of person who lit up a room just by being in it. Her trademark of big, beautiful bows and her love of the color pink were outward reflections of the joy and vibrance that she carried within her. She had a very special relationship with her mother. Their bond was greater than words could ever express. She loved her mother and her mother loved her greatly. Holly was her mother’s whole world and our family will forever be grateful to the St. George Episcopal School community for the love they have wrapped us in for the past ten years.
Holly Marie is survived by her loving mother, Dana Marie Carroll and her devoted grandparents, Gene and Diane Stewart, her aunt Shauna Abrego and uncle Ryan & his wife Breanne Stewart, and her cousins who loved and treated each other like siblings, Tara Abrego, Terrin Abrego, and Rocco Stewart. She is also survived by her father Josh & his wife Julie Carroll (Charles), grandparents Bob & Pamela Carroll and Carol Webber Carroll, her aunt Mary Beth Carroll, aunt Sarah & her husband Jonas Houston, and uncle Jon & his wife Kyla Carroll, and by her 9 cousins who all adored her and will carry her memory with them always.
Though her time with us was far too short, Holly’s impact was immeasurable. She was a beautiful gift from God whose light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who loved her.
A public service will be held for all who loved her including family, friends, and her school community. The family welcomes everyone to wear pink in her honor. Fly high, sweet Holly Marie. We love you so very much. You will always be our beautiful butterfly and mommy’s baby girl. I love you!
Dana Carroll and her family are truly thankful for the St. George Episcopal School community who set up the memorial fund to assist with medical and burial arrangements. Words cannot express the love that this school and the loving families have shown us. You have brought our family great strength this week.
