Homer Byington, age 75, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 10, 2019, following a hard- fought battle with cancer. He was born on September 12, 1943 in Falfurrias, TX, to Oliver and Genoveva Byington, one of four sons.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1962, where he proudly served for 21 years, retiring at the rank of Master Sergeant. Following his military service, he began his Civil Service career in 1983 at the Academy of Health Sciences, Department of Veterinary Sciences, Fort Sam Houston, where he retired as a Supervisory QA Specialist in 2007.
Homer was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Oliver Jr. and Ovidio. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Phyllis, and their children, Steven (Beth), Deborah, Sandra, and Laurie (Steven, Jr.) Lingebach; his three grandchildren, Ethan Erik, and Emily Lingebach; his brother, Oscar (Gloria) Byington, and several nieces and nephews.
Homer was an active member of the Association of Retired Enlisted Veterinary Personal where he enjoyed many enduring friendships. He will always be remembered for his dedication and love for his family and country. He loved traveling, watching his westerns and telling a good story. Homer was a good caring man who will be greatly missed by many.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2019 from 5:30 pm- 8:00 pm at Sunset Funeral Home, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Monday, February 25, 2019 at 11:30 am, with interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
