

Hortencia C. Lopez, age 73, departed to heaven on Wednesday, November 20th, in San Antonio Texas. Born on March 2, 1951, in Valle Hermoso, Tamaulipas, México, to Esteban Alfonso Cabrera and María De Jesus (Sandoval) Cabrera. Hortencia’s young early life was characterized by being a great sister, daughter and student eventually earning her degree and becoming an elementary school teacher. Hortencia then married a wonderful young man named Gonzalo Lara, who blessed her with her two oldest children however God called him home too soon. Later in life she met, married and was a devoted wife to the love of her life for 48 years, Modesto C. Lopez.
Together Modesto & Hortencia raised a family of five children. She was a devoted and loving mother to Gonzalo Lara, Jr. (Edith), Veronica I. Pindell (Sam), Olga A. Lopez (Doug Atkinson), Modesto C. Lopez, and Yvette A. Hernandez (Steven). Her role as a grandmother was so special to her and was manifested by the love and attention she bestowed to Amanda M. Scott, Gonzalo G. Lara, Kayla A. Diaz, Bryan A. Pindell, Marco A. Diaz, Samantha M. Pindell, Olivia R. Caltzontzint, Alyssa Hernandez, Gabriella Hernandez, Lileana Hernandez and Penelope M. Peña, including seven great-grandchildren. All grandchildren were beyond blessed to have a grandmother like her and the like for all her children and spouses.
Throughout her life, Hortencia found relaxation and joy in her many interests. She had a strong craft for crocheting, even making bedspreads for her kids amongst many other cute gifts. She loved to host and entertain and there wasn’t a store she didn’t enjoy shopping in. Hortencia loved listening to music, all genres, that also included dancing along with the tunes. She loved to dance with her husband – almost always breaking in any dance floor. Along Hortencia’s many pleasures in life was making sure she always had a warm meal and open arms for whoever walked in her home. She always had a warm smile and contagious laughter to go along with it. She always had her home with the most sparkly Christmas lights every year, made the best home made tortillas, and enjoyed her daily cup of coffee with her husband and anyone that would drop by to say hello.
Hortencia was preceded in death by her husband, Modesto J. Lopez, first husband Gonzalo Lara, sibling Alfonso Cabrera Sandoval, grandchildren Travis Aaron & Kevin Alan Pindell, and parents Esteban Alfonso Cabrera and Maria De Jesus Cabrera.
Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday December 7th at 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N. Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, Texas 78232. Please join us for a viewing, service and reception to honor our beloved Mother.
