Hortense's life, with the help of her husband, was centered around two goals: to raise and educate her children in a Christian environment and to serve God in her church by participating and working in the overall program of the church.
While her children were attending San Antonio public schools, Hortense became involved in PTA activities.
She served as President of the Sidney Lanier PTA for three consecutive terms and later served as an officer of the 5th District PTA for the State of Texas.
She was presented with a PTA Life Membership Pin, an honor of which she was very proud.
As a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church, Hortense worked and served in all areas.
Among them the administrative board, the board of trustees, the Council of Ministries and the Sunday School program.
She taught Sunday School for over 20 years and was instrumental in organizing and developing a day-time kindergarten program at Wesley Mission and El Buen Pastor Methodist Church in 1962 and 1963.
She also wrote, produced and directed over ten Christmas and Easter pageants which were presented by the choir and drama departments of her church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Refugio Teniente and is survived by her son, Judge Richard Teniente; daughters, Stella Sanders, Mary Louise Perez and husband, Manuel, Helen Castillo and husband, Lou, Alice Salas and husband, Tony all of San Antonio, Texas; sixteen grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; sisters, Mary Rodriguez, Olga Starke; brothers, Louis Rodriguez, Rudy Rodriguez, Bobby Rodriguez, Henry Rodriguez, David Rodriguez; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
