

Major Howard Wesley Clifton (USAF retired), known to many as "Clif", passed away on 5 March 2021, at the age of 93. Same day as his beloved wife, Lorraine who passed away 5 March 2010. He was also know as Poppa to his family, friends and caregivers.
Born in Idabel, Oklahoma to Richard M. Clifton and Agnes Pearl (Beauchamp) Clifton. He is survived by his daughter Brenda Zachman (Clifton) and son Duane Clifton.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Clifton (Kolodzie) and his brother Thomas Clifton.
Poppa enjoyed life with his family and lived in many places including Texas, Florida, Washington DC, Japan, Hawaii and Nebraska. Military service (22 years) took him on tours to Japan twice, once during the Korean War and then again with his family in the 60's. His most notable tour was in Washington DC, where he was Headquarters Commander to Air Force One during the Eisenhower administration. After his retirement in July of 1968 he moved his family back to Texas and purchased a home in Windcrest where he became one of the charter members of the Windcrest Volunteer Fire Department. He also went to work for Bexar County Appraisal District. He retired from there January 1992.
Poppa was a member of Mason's Texas Lodge number 8, San Antonio, Texas. He entered 8 Aug 1950. he was a member in good standing for 71 years.
He raised cattle at the family ranch in Falls City, Texas, where he and his wife spent many weekends. He also enjoyed going to hockey games, Fiesta Texas and he loved woodworking building various decorations for the Windcrest Christmas Contest. His greatest love was taking care of his family and friends. He was an incredible Air Force officer and a man with a generous heart for everyone he met.
There will be a small family (invitation only), socially distanced (masks required) graveside service Wednesday, April 7, 2021 from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
