Leo was born August 9, 1944 in Pensacola, Florida. He was preceded in death by his mother Ethel, and father Leo Zimmerman, Sr. of Pensacola.
He is survived by his loving wife Pat of 41 yrs, daughters Kris Ritter, her husband Eric, Sara Zimmerman; son Howard Rankin; brother Ronnie Zimmerman, his wife Anna Mary, sister Marsha Nielsen, her husband Kenny; grandchildren Kyle and Joshua Ritter, Blake Rankin, Ashley Sohns; great grandchildren Kyler and Sadie Bleu Sohns; as well as numerous extended family members and beloved friends.
All that knew Leo admired his courage and positive attitude from the beginning to the end of his illness. He was a beloved husband, Dad, Grandpa, brother, cousin and a friend to so many who will never forget his candid, witty sense of humor. Leo rarely complained but went out of his way to make sure that everyone else was comfortable, striving to make sure everyone was happy.
Leo's passion for playing golf began at age 10 and continued all through his life. He began his career in the furniture business at White's Stores in Houston in 1968 going on to become a manufacture rep for over 40 years making friends all throughout South Texas.
Being a Grandpa and spending time with his grandsons was the joy of his life; he was never too busy when it came to playing catch. He touched the lives of so many with his big-hearted ways. Those who knew Leo will forever hold many special memories in their hearts but will miss the fun most of all.
Growing in his faith and his closer walk with the Lord made him thankful everyday for the countless blessings in his life. He knew it was God's strength that carried him and his family through the struggles of the last few years.
A special thank you from the Zimmerman family goes to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and Vitas Hospice Care in San Antonio for their kind compassion and service.
