Sept 30, 1925 – Jan. 18, 2021
Huguette was born in Paris, France, September 30, 1925. Her parents, Rolande and Roger Maire d’ Eglise, moved to the Paris suburb of Garches when she was very young. She began studying piano at a very early age. She left school and was tutored at home thereafter so that she could concentrate on her piano studies. She studied with several piano teachers who all taught piano collaboratively with the famous pianist Magda Tagliaferro, who was her main instructor. Huguette attended the Conservatory of Music in Paris until World War II ended her music studies. After the war she continued her piano studies at the Music Conservatory of Versailles. During this time Huguette met Felix (Beco) P. Martinez, a young U.S. Army medic who was stationed at the American Army Hospital close to her home. They were married on December 11, 1947 at the Eglise Sainte-Louis in Garches, France. They then returned to Beco’s home town, Pearsall, Texas, before moving to San Antonio where they lived while Beco completed his studies at St. Mary’s University. Huguette and Beco moved back to Europe where Beco worked as a school principal for the American Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) from the 1950’s until 1990, moving over ten times with their five children during this period. She also taught piano to countless young American, French and German children and was fluent in French, English, Spanish, some German and Italian. Huguette loved classical music. Liszt was her favorite composer. During family time, Huguette played the piano, Beco played his guitar and all the children sang along. She was very organized and meticulous about her home, was an excellent cook, loved to snack on her favorite French cheeses, and chocolate was her favorite sweet. She also loved her garden. Her favorite flowers were roses - especially, and lilies of the valley, and geraniums. She enjoyed wearing jewelry, reading romantic fiction novels, watching comedy and WW II movies, and enjoyed keeping up with the latest news about the British royal family. Huguette was especially proud of her family. She is survived by her five children, Stella M. Trevino, Marie-Joelle Hacker (Thomas), M. Anne Amann, Robert G. Martinez (Starla), Juan R. Martinez (Victoria). Huguette’s grand-children: Fred Trevino (Stephanie), Samantha M. Trevino-Torres (Vicente), Jose M. Trevino (Cecilia), Jessica S. May she enjoy playing the piano in the company of the angels and find eternal happiness in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
