Hung “Michael” Van Tran passed away peacefully on February 23, 2011 in San Antonio, his adopted hometown. Born in Vietnam, Hung came to the United States in 1975 after the Vietnam War seeking a better life for his family. Sponsored by Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Selma, he worked for the church and school for a decade where he was lovingly known as “Mr. Mike” by the parish. Hung would later work for Regis Salons until his recent retirement. Among friends, he always enjoyed engaging others – whether it be to share a story, to offer encouragement, or simply to take a twirl if a dance area could be made. He was 67 years old and is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, three children, and four grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Sunset North Funeral Home and the Memorial Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. that same day.
