Ignacio “Nacho” Garcia Jr., born on March 13, 1934 in Navajo, NM, went to be with the Lord on January 18, 2024 at the age of 89. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lillie Garcia, his parents, Ignacio Garcia Sr. and Refugio G. Garcia; his siblings Theresa (Martin) Prado, Josefina (Jaquin) Andrade, Ofelia (Luis) Olivares, Benidicto (Anita) Garcia, Mary (Robert) Lavorico, Estevan Garcia, Jessie (German) Escobar, David Lopez and granddaughter Alejandra Raquel Garcia and great-grandson Draven Ethan Maldonado.
He is survived by his sister, Lina (John) Jaurige; his son, Jesus Antonio Garcia and daughter, Diana Louise Sanchez. Jesus’s first wife, Angelica Espino.
He is also survived by his grandchildren Monica Del Valle (Victor), Valerie O. Moczygemba (Michael), Leslie D. Garcia (Alejandro), Eliseo Maldonado Jr. (Amy), Joseph D. Sanchez Jr., Santiago Ambriz Jr. and Michelle E. Espino. His great-grandchildren Michael L. Moczygemba, Aren Cannon, Fabian I. Maldonado, Jeremy L. Garcia, Trevor A. Moczygemba (Hailey), Eli A. Maldonado, Alec E. Garcia, Eliseo Dymnicki, Slade C. Combs, Sandra J. Combs-Moczygemba, Sergio A. Maldonado, Kevin R. Radicke, Aiden A. Radicke, Nyla N. Maldonado, Demrie A. Silva, Gabriel S. Padilla, Liam A. Sanchez, and Oliver A. Sanchez. His great-great grandchildren Luna L. Garcia, Berkley B. Moczygemba, Briley M. Moczygemba, Slade C. Combs III and Lovelyn A. Combs. He is also survived by several God-children, nieces, nephews’, numerous cousins and friends.
He wore his Veteran’s cap proudly having served in the United States Navy from March 1952 to February 1955 during the Korean War. He served on the USS Pine Island (AV 12). He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, and the China Service Medal.
He was a foreman at San Antonio Water Systems where he retired in 1995 after 30 years of service.
He was very proud of his Indian heritage as a Tarahumara Indian, a hidden tribe.
He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help church where he attended regularly up until Co-Vid.
Nacho was cherished and loved by all who knew him and he will be dearly missed by many.
Family will be receiving guest for Visitation at Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Rd, San Antonio, TX 78207, on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 from 6 to 9 pm with a Rosary at 7 pm. On Thursday, February 1, 2024 we will depart from Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Rd. at 9:30 am for Mass of Resurrection at 10 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 618 Grimes, San Antonio, TX 78213. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery, 7735 Gibbs Sprawl Rd, San Antonio, TX, 78239.
