Ira Hale, Jr., 89, of Helotes, Texas, went to be with the Lord on November 13, 2012, surrounded by his family. He was born November 9, 1923, in Eskota, Texas, the son of late Ira Hale, Sr. and Nannie Imogene Gunnels Brumfield. He was the oldest of 3 siblings. On June 1, 1948, he married the love of his life, Vernice Irene Hanna, and has been happily married for 64 years. He served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation radio operator in the 1940’s. After his discharge, he was employed by Santa Fe Railroad for 37 years, retiring in November 1983. He was a devoted member of Trinity Baptist Church in Sweetwater, Texas for many years. When he moved to Helotes in 2003, he became a member of Crossroads Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving wife, Vernice Hale; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Edward Ligendza; son and daughter-in-law David and Sheila Hale; brother and sister-in-law, Alton and Barbara Hale; sister, Gwendolyn Guelker; grandchildren, Alan and Ivonne Reeder, Hannah and Randy Sowell; great-grandchildren, Tony Reeder, Malena Reeder, Joshua Sowell and Hailey Sowell. He was preceded in death by Ira Hale Sr. (Father) and Nannie Gunnels Brumfield (Mother). We remember our husband, brother, father, granddaddy and great-granddaddy with the fondest memories, with the warmest of thoughts and the lasting and enduring love by which he touched all of our lives. A service will be held on Friday November 16, 2012, at Crossroads Baptist Church, adress 8300 Tezel Rd., San Antonio, Texas 78254 at 1:00pm. Burial service will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at Longworth Cemetery, Longworth, Texas at 1:00 P.M. Pall bearers are Alton Hale, David Hale, Jack Hale, Edward Ligendza, Alan Reeder, Tony Reeder, and Joshua Sowell. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Crossroads Baptist Church, 8300 Tezel Road SATX 78254.
