Irene S. Alberti was born to her parents, William and Meta Sultemeier, in their family home on Rocky Creek, Blanco County, Texas. She was the youngest and last survivor of 8 brothers and sisters. Irene was baptized and confirmed in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Stonewall, Texas. She attended school at the Rocky Creek school house, completing the 8th grade and like almost all of her generation, began working at an early age.
Irene moved to Fredericksburg and worked at SK Manufacturing, sewing men’s shirts. She loved dancing, which is how she met Oliver (Ollie) W. Schneider at Seips Hall in Fredericksburg, TX. They fell in love while dancing under the big oak tree. Ollie and Irene were married in the Holy Ghost Lutheran Church on October 27, 1946.
After moving to San Antonio they had four children: Oliver (OW) Schneider, Jr., Ronald (Ronnie) Schneider, David Schneider, and Cherri Buttery. Mom made our house a home. After a full day of caring for her family, she would work late into each night helping our dad with his business. They were a team. Mom and dad were married for 21 years before Ollie’s sudden death in 1967.
After dad’s death, mom worked at several different service jobs as she loved learning, and meeting new people. She met Alfred C. Alberti through her friends at City Public Service and they were married in 1984. They loved attending functions at the San Antonio Astronomical Society and dances at the Beethoven Mannenchoir. Al preceded her in death in 1986.
Mom loved gardening and was always positive about life. After growing up on a farm in the Great Depression, she considered herself fortunate in life. After years of saving, mom and dad built the home of their dreams where she lived for 57 years.
Irene leaves behind four children, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at Porter Loring North. Interment will be Friday, June 18, 2021, at 11:30 a.m. in Greenwood Cemetery, Fredericksburg, TX, next to Ollie, where once again after 53 years, they will dance together under the oak trees.
The family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers over the years; Pauline and Joe Neavez, Lucy Gaona, Sylvia Garcia, and Gloria Gomez.
