Irene was born to the late Elizabeth and Cecil Burrell in the coal mining town of Seaham Harbor, England.
She came over as one of the first war brides on the Queen Mary in 1946. She rejoined her first husband in Fort Worth, Texas. After Texas, she lived many places including Europe.
She is survived by five children, Valorie Parker of Nashville, TN; Rudy Bramlet of Houston, Cori Bramlet of Denver, CO, Veronica Lada of Germany, and Jamie Hickey Amelio of Singapore; thirteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, the late James R. Hickey.
Irene lived in San Antonio for thirty seven years. Life was a party for the feisty red-head!
She will be sorely missed.
The family would like to invite all friends to Jamie Amelio's house in Lakeway outside Austin for lunch after the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Freedom House, Air Force Village II, 5100 John D. Ryan Blvd., San Antonio, TX 78245.
