Irene Kymes Koenig

May 12, 1928 – October 1, 2020
Obituary of Irene Kymes Koenig
IN THE CARE OF

Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home

Irene Kymes Koenig passed away at the age of 92 in San Antonio, TX on October 1, 2020. She was born on May 12, 1928 to William and Bessie Wright in Hope, AR.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Charlie R. Kymes, baby Kymes and Ryan Allen Kymes.

She is survived by her husband: Herman J. Koenig; son, Dennis C. Kymes; daughter, Elaine I. Kymes; grandchildren, Shannon (Gary), Dennia, Libby (Rex), Bobby, Adri, Matthew (Sandra) and Brandy (Jason); great-grandchildren, Lilyan, Jackson, Jacob “Bubba” and Colt Alan; brother, J.W.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Irene was a loving wife, mom, grandmother, sister and friend. She grew up in Hope, Arkansas with her parents and 14 brothers and sisters. At the age of 21, she met Charlie Kymes at Snell Artificial Limb and Brace Co. located in Little Rock, AK. The two were married on February 2, 1951 and moved to San Antonio, TX that same day. Both worked at Lux Artificial Limb and Brace Co and acquired full ownership of the business in 1970. Shortly after moving, they started a family, which meant everything to Irene. She was involved in many volunteer opportunities and organizations, including Al Anon, various churches and Delta Rho Delta sorority. Her greatest accomplishment was providing a loving home for all of her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. Irene met Herman at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, her home church of many years. They were married on March 14, 2014. Irene and Herman enjoyed attending church together, cheering on our Spurs (Go Spurs Go!) and sharing meals at their favorite restaurants. We will all miss her very much but rest easy knowing heaven gained a true angel.

A private family funeral service will be held at a later date at Sunset Funeral Home.
