

Irma was born in Pressburg, Czechoslovakia to Maria and Bruno Tichy on 16 April 1934. The family later moved to Frankfurt am Main in Germany and she spent her early years growing up in postwar Germany. She married Reese Jackson in 1957 with that ending in divorce in 1971. She gravitated towards an education in business and progressed from secretarial positions to those of increased scope and responsibility culminating as a Major Command Financial Analyst for the Air Force. As a career civil service employee she was posted to Randolph and Ramstein Air Force Bases and the Pentagon. For her government service she was awarded the Exemplary Civilian Service medal. Her time in San Antonio left its impression and she returned for the final move in her retirement after several years in Florida. In her retirement she continued service to the community as a volunteer at Methodist Hospital Stone Oak. As a Florida and Texas Master Gardener she assisted in several community projects. In addition to gardening she loved playing golf and was a master of the two letter words in Scrabble.
Irma is preceded in death by her daughter Sherry Smith and siblings Inge, Dieter, Hartmut and Wolfgang.
She is survived by son George, son-in-law Kevin (Sherry), grandsons Ryan (Amy), Darin (Jennifer) and Chad (Allison), and great granddaughters Luna, Phoebe and Brooklyn. She also leaves behind numerous friends who will miss her dearly.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 on 14 April at Concordia Lutheran Church, 16801 Huebner Rd, San Antonio, Texas. Inurnment will be at Sunset Memorial Park for immediate family.
Memorials may be given to the I AM ALS organization in the name of Sherry Leigh Smith.
Irma’s family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to San Antonio Wellness and Rehabilitation and VITAS Healthcare for the excellent care provided by them during her last months.
Also a very special expression of thanks to Michele Griffin for being a “Godsend” to my mother as she mentioned countless times during her difficult times.
