Irma Marie Medrano, age 71, left her body on Saturday, her late-mother’s birthday, October 24, 2020, in her hometown of San Antonio, Texas. She was born on August 13, 1949 to Antonio C. and Maria Delgado Medrano. Irma was a mother-figure to many, a loyal friend and partner, a loud, smiling, gaudy woman that loved her family like a lioness, a good lipstick, and any reason to celebrate by gathering together. Irma lived a life she was proud of. Throughout her life, Irma carried on mightily and showed incredible perseverance and mental and physical strength any time her Lord asked her to endure. She was painfully diplomatic, dutiful, professional, encouraging of peace, merciful, intense, and hard as ivory tusks. Irma was preceded in death by her life-bound parents that in grained her passion for travel and outreach and expansion in so many ways; son, Christopher David Gonzales; and her brother Antonio Medrano, Jr – both gone too young. Irma is survived by her husband, Celedonio Cabrera; her loving sisters, Margaret Leal (husband Miguel Leal and family) and Diana Moncivais (husband Ernest Moncivais and family); Cecilia Medrano (late brother’s wife and family), grandchildren, Crystal Gonzales Robbins (husband Bradley Robbins), Maegan Ryan Gonzales, and Joshua Nathaniel Gonzales; great-grandchildren, Trace Michael Kyle, Adison Lake Gray, Michael Blaze Gray, Lola Grace Robbins, Leilani Gonzales, Nathaniel Gonzales, and Bowie Christopher Robbins; godchildren Brandon Medrano Briggs and Erika Galo Drew and their beloved families; countless cousins; and friends that became and stayed her family, too. Her family would love to hear from you as Irma would have loved it, too, and they invite you to share your best memories of Irma in the guestbook so that we may all remember her gift to us – togetherness. Let us hold each other from however far apart we are as we embrace the grief of Irma’s transcendence, our loss and her gain, and celebrate the lasting joys of her life – together.
