

Irwin "Mike" Sexton died Tuesday, November 18, 2008 of natural causes following a brief illness. He was 87. A devoted family man, he was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn; he is survived by his son, David and his wife, Debbie; granddaughter, Erin; brother, Charles Sexton and wife, Joyce; niece, Cindy; and nephew, Phillip. Sexton, a retired Librarian was Director for the San Antonio Public Library for over 28 years. He also served as Director of the Public Library in both St. Joseph, Missouri and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His career was at times stormy, innovative and productive. Other accomplishments include a variety of published works. Prior to graduation from Purdue University and Western Reserve University, Sexton served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He taught school for three years in Indiana. Leisure time was spent playing cards both Bridge and Poker, he enjoyed working with his computer for word processing, finances and games. Do it yourself projects were always an important part of his life. Activities ranged from auto repair and maintenance to tree trimming. His faith in God never wavered, and his love of his wife, son and family was always steadfast and true. He enjoyed life to its fullest and was prepared to go when called.
