Isabel G. Santos

She is now reunited with her ever-loving husband, Juan J. Santos, where they can once again dance beneath the stars, as they so often enjoyed doing here on Earth—accompanied, of course, by a good cold beer and what they fondly called “Bironga Time.”

Isabel was born on August 29th, 1942, to Faustino and Angelita Gomez. She graduated from Edgewood High School in 1960 and went on to build a beautiful life centered around her family, her faith, and the traditions she lovingly passed down through generations.

Isabel was the devoted mother of four children: Ernesto Santos and his wife, Patricia Santos; Patricia Ann Silva and her husband, Marcelino Silva; Juan Cruz Santos and his wife, Norma Santos; and Jose Manuel Santos and his wife, Vanessa Santos. She was also the proud grandmother of 9 grandchildren and the cherished great-grandmother of 17 great-grandchildren.

Family was at the heart of Isabel’s life. She expressed her love through the many meals she prepared and the warm, welcoming home she created. Family members often gathered around her table to enjoy her cooking, shared stories, laughed, and spent time together. Her homemade tortillas were especially loved and will remain a treasured memory for everyone fortunate enough to have enjoyed them. She was also well known for spreading love around the holidays when she would have gatherings around the table to make tamales.

In addition to cooking, Isabel loved to sew. Whether she was making clothing, curtains, or anything else someone needed, she was always eager to use her “magic sewing machine” to create something beautiful. She took great joy in seeing the happiness her creations brought to others. Her handmade pieces, much like her meals, were expressions of her patience, generosity, creativity, and love.

Isabel is survived by her brothers, Faustino Gomez II, Raymond Garcia, Francisco Gomez, and Abel Gomez; and her sisters, Alicia Hughes, Ramona Fazio, and Elvira Alvarado. She would also be remiss if we didn’t mention her beloved two dogs Bella and Sammie II who would not leave her bedside until the end.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Juan J. Santos; her parents, Faustino and Angelita Gomez; her step mother Francisca Gomez; her sister, Ernestina Alvarez; her brother, David Gomez; and first grandson Joshua Santos.

Isabel’s love, strength, and devotion to her family will live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, and the many relatives and friends whose lives she touched. Her family will forever remember the warmth of her home, the comfort of her cooking, the beauty of her handmade creations, and the unconditional love she gave so freely.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, August 12th, 2026, beginning at 5:30 p.m., with the Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m., at Sunset Funeral Home, located at 1701 Austin Highway.

Burial services will take place on Thursday, August 13th, 2026, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery beginning at 10:30 a.m.
